With your own relevant examples, answer these questions.

1) What kind of culture influences through technology can you see from today’s world?

Nowadays, Personal computer, laptop or desktop were something very importance things in our life. They’re playing a very importance role in our life. So many professionals need them, there are so many works can’t work without them.

Another case, there are so many teenagers deep addicted by computer game, they could play the online games until sleepless, they able to surf the net for the whole day without eat and rest. Influenced their attitude of study, influenced their life style.

Schools also used computer to create and show the slide show for the teaching. For students, computer makes the journey of learning not so boring and fresher. For our country and teachers, computer also help teacher to reduce their burdens, and the process of teaching become systematic.

So many government department need computer to perform their duty well, computer make all the things easy to be created, easy to be arranged, easy to be deleted also.
Computer makes all the files keeping nicely, neatly and safety. This influenced the quality and the speed of the process in the government’s procedure.

So many things could happen in our real life, they’re happened with computer also, we can even make it more and more perfectly. No matter in good way or bad influences, computer really was one kind of culture influences through technology in my world.

monday class

so tired...
was rushing design fundemental art work....
so...I'm so tired inthe class..sleepy!

honestly..
i fell asleep in the class.
so no any comment for the class.
what i know.got a very boring video.

i was so happy,
this is the last two times for me to type blog le!
hahaha,im a lazy student.

hope my design fundemental presentation wil goes on smoothly.
hope all the lecturer have a very good mood .
and HOPEFULLY,i can able to finish my work faster.
i need sleep !!!!

Critical Thinking [Week 10]

The Power of Nightmares
The Power of Nightmares, subtitled The Rise of the Politics of Fear, is a BBC documentary film series, written and produced by Adam Curtis. Its three one-hour parts consist mostly of a montage of archive footage with Curtis's narration. The series was first broadcast in the United Kingdom in late 2004 and has subsequently been broadcast in multiple countries and shown in several film festivals, including the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.

The films compare the rise of the Neo-Conservative movement in the United States and the radical Islamist movement, making comparisons on their origins and claiming similarities between the two. More controversially, it argues that the threat of radical Islamism as a massive, sinister organised force of destruction, specifically in the form of al-Qaeda, is a myth perpetrated by politicians in many countries—and particularly American Neo-Conservatives—in an attempt to unite and inspire their people following the failure of earlier, more utopian ideologies.

The Power of Nightmares has been praised by film critics in both Britain and the United States. Its message and content have also been the subject of various critiques and criticisms from conservatives and progressives.
[From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia]

There are also allegations of omissions in the history described by the film. The absence of discussion of the isreal palestian culture was noticed by observers. Davis claimed that Leo Strauss's ideas had been formed by his experiences in Germany the film's failure to mention this was motivated by a wish to display Strauss as concerned with American suburkan culture, like Qutb.
media len criticised the film for failing to explore the role of big business in the situation it described.

Critical Thinking [Week 10]

The documentary entitled "The Power of Nightmares (Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave)" by Adam Curtis was shown in class on Monday. How do you relate the information given to you in the documentary to the theory of Media Imperialism that we talked about in lecture?

As we know, Media Imperialism is the idea that powerful and wealthy countries can exercise economic, cultural and social control over others through control of media industries. It also can be definite as a theory stating that smaller countries are losing their identity due to the force-feeding of media from larger nations. Media imperialism is not just seen internationally. When large amounts of media output are produced by just a few or even one company, then this too is media imperialism.

In the past, politicians promised to create a better world. They had different ways of achieving this. But their power and authority came from the optimistic visions they offered to their people. Those dreams failed. And today, people have lost faith in ideologies. The video of "The Power of Nightmares (Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave)" is about the story of two groups: the American neoconservatives and the radical Islamists. The wars between these two groups had killed a lot of people. For example, two huge suicide bombs were detonated outside American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing more than 200 people. This showed how Media Imperialism affects societies so much.

Personal Reflection

Something happened today,

My name was called by lecturer to remind me send email to him with my assignment blog address.
I did sent it before but unfortunately lecturer didn’t receive it. Typing in internet that have a unlimited space but writing in a book that will finish used.

The enhances for blogging was we can lock our own blogs with password, this give us secure then the dairy. Anyone can read our dairy when they found the book without typing password. We can even put many animate to show our emotion more detail with internet blogging, we can control our font type, font colour, font size and the layout we want. Dairy using a simply note book or even a decorated book, it will never prettier then the graphic that created by pc advanced software. We can save as much as we can. No need to buy or decorated a new one.

The internet blogging make the obsolesces of writing dairy getting obvious, because teenagers like to be fashion with having laptop then holding a book. Frankly, internet blogging was really much convenient then the dairy, we no need to bring a pen and an erase, just bring a laptop or using destop . We can listen to music when typing blog also. The pretty and beautiful graphic resolution of internet was attracting teenagers or many people to use internet blog also.

Critical Thinking [Week 9]

Critical Thinking [Week 8]

For me, Online advertising was a medium or media application or tool that many effected our life and our environment. Previously, we need to paste flyer all around in our housing area, bus stop or even school area, and through tv programmes. Nowadays, we can easy post our business ,our creativity, our thinking, our product in internet. In the other hand , we could easily get any information we needed in internet easily also. This is what we called as enhances.

The retrieves of advertisement for newspaper and online advertisement, newspaper have a very limited colour resolution and because of the budget, they have to be only fine quality. The online advertisement ,high quality graphic.

Reverses of newspaper advertisement and tv advertisement with online advertisement. If you want to get anything from newspaper advertisement, you might needed to call or send letter or application form. Sometimes, you may needed to write down the telephone number given in the advertisement from tv, even wait for the specific advertisement we needed in front of the tv. But, if you needed something from internet, you just need a “click” and filling something needed. In the others hand, the reply from seller or organizer will take 2 weeks to 1 months for the newspaper but oli 3 to 5 days from internet.

In the process, obsolesces happened on the NEWSPAPER. For me, I felt newspaper wasted paper resources, wasting time to print out, making rubbish also. Online advertisement, no need paper work, using computer and advanced technology made us easy to edit layout and design. And the most importance thing is, newspaper cost one to two ringgits but online advertisements are free for surfing!

essay!MLC 0013 – MEDIA CULTURE

today, received Second Assignment, for 2009 SESSION...
title is : Role of Media in Socializing;
Discuss the human needs that the Media help satisfy in term of the News and Entertainment.
Abstract: 800 words

800 hundred words, its hard,i think i have to do more research.
but i love to write essay more then drawing anyway.
Human needs that the Media help satisfy in term of the News and Entertainment.
i very agree with it,because im the one who been entertain mby media also.

this will be a hard but interesting essay for.
i will write it as well as i can.

today class,as normal.
lecturer gave lecture.
i really dont know what else i could write down here.
recently,im was so miserable about what will comes out in final exam...

Critical Thinking [Week 8]

Indecency [language] [下流，不适当]

Indecency more used on criticized the way human talking.
The adjective INDECENT has 3 senses:
1. By mid-adolescence, teens have watched many thousands of hours of television—more time than they spend with teachers in school. Add to that figure the hours devoted to surfing the Internet, playing video games, watching videos and DVDs, listening to the radio, and attending movies, and the media’s impact becomes clear.

By helping our teens become media literate, we can help protect them from pressures from advertising and other media forms to smoke, drink, use drugs, have sex, or eat unhealthy foods. We also can help them build communication skills, encourage them to consider multiple interpretations of media messages, put portrayals of themselves and others in perspective, and improve media use habits, such as changing ritualistic viewing behaviors. In addition, we can improve the media use habits of the entire family and promote more proactive behavior among all family members.

Media literacy is not media bashing; the goal is not to ridicule the media. Media are dominant forces in our culture and an important part of our teenagers’ lives. Media should be evaluated fairly, not denigrated. Media literacy is also no silver bullet or magic wand; it will not instantly solve all of our problems. But it is our best defense in resisting manipulation and keeping a perspective on the images and messages that are a part of media and youth culture.

As you employ these skills at home, remember that the heart of media literacy lies in the discussion. There are many activities that you can do with your children, but nothing is more important than talking with them about what we watch, hear, and read. Keep discussions relaxed; this takes the pressure off of teens to get the “right” answer. Draw out their ideas and guide them to critically examine what they see and hear. Remember to keep probing the answer as this helps young people expand their thoughts. This helps them focus and helps us understand how they perceive what they view. It doesn’t matter so much what questions you ask; the important thing is to get youth to express and challenge what they see and hear.

Young people can learn how to read between the lines so that they can understand exactly what music videos, movies, and other forms of communication that reach youth are saying to them.

As a FCM students i felt Media Literacy was so important because

The media help define how we communicate with each other.

The media like family studies determine much of our cultural diet and weave part of the fabric of our lives.

The media bring us political and ideological messages all the time.

The media helps us (mis)understand ourselves and others.

The media interpret our world, its values and ideas to us.

The media help us to understand the workings of our immediate world, and our individual places in it.

we creating media, we needed udeful media literacy to make sure our future are brighten

Faculty of Creative Multimedia,WE ALL ARE STUDYNG ABOUT MEDIA.
BECAUSE THE MEDIA GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO STUDY YOU!

Critical Thinking [Week 7]

What is Media Literacy and why is it important for you as FCM students to have it?

Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read. Media literacy education provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda, censorship, and bias in news and public affairs programming (and the reasons for such), and to understand how structural features -- such as media ownership, or its funding model[1] -- affect the information presented. Media literacy aims to enable people to be skillful creators and producers of media messages, both to facilitate an understanding as to the strengths and limitations of each medium, as well as to create independent media. Media literacy is an expanded conceptualization of literacy. By transforming the process of media consumption into an active and critical process, people gain greater awareness of the potential for misrepresentation and manipulation (especially through commercials and public relations techniques), and understand the role of mass media and participatory media in constructing views of reality.

For me ,
Media literacy is the ability to sift through and analyze the messages that inform, entertain and sell to us every day. It's the ability to bring critical thinking skills to bear on all media— from music videos and Web environments to product placement in films and virtual displays on NHL hockey boards. It's about asking pertinent questions about what's there, and noticing what's not there. And it's the instinct to question what lies behind media productions— the motives, the money, the values and the ownership— and to be aware of how these factors influence content.

Media education encourages a probing approach to the world of media: Who is this message intended for? Who wants to reach this audience, and why? From whose perspective is this story told? Whose voices are heard, and whose are absent? What strategies does this message use to get my attention and make me feel included?

In our world of multi-tasking, commercialism, globalization and interactivity, media education isn't about having the right answers—it's about asking the right questions. The result is lifelong empowerment of the learner and citizen.
[do reference from senior notes]

no class

smile

Critical Thinking [Week 6]

From your personal experience, what other media stereotype, you have seen either on TV or in the movies?

Media Stereotyping - Introduction
Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.

But stereotypes can be problematic. They can:
reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations
transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities"
be used to justify the position of those in power
perpetuate social prejudice and inequality

More often than not, the groups being stereotyped have little to say about how they are represented.
This section comments on common media stereotypes and examines some of the root causes of stereotypical portrayals, including lack of diversity behind the scenes in newsrooms and film studios. The section explores the impact of stereotyping on self-image and the development of attitudes among the young, and it showcases efforts to counter stereotyping with alternative programming. It also outlines diversity guidelines for the broadcasting industry, as well as government policies to promote fair and equitable portrayals in Canadian media.
For further information and research, each of the sub-topic sections below also offers a continually updated selection of pertinent articles, reports, surveys, statistics, and Web sites.

Write use their own language and their humour to vent out their thinking even their anger towards politics, life, people around and everything. For example, the movie “The click “
, this movie trying to use a funny way to make sarcastic with how human will be ridiculous when they have a power to control their time and control other’s time. In the end of the movie, the main actor realised how regret he do, because his laziness and ridiculous. He missed out all the precious time he could spend with his family and his career. When he realise it, his father already dead without his concern , his son and daughter grow up without his notice, even his dog dead without his realising. Luckily, when he felt deeply regret and sad, he wake up from the dream, the story go back to the start point again, the director trying to tell us, think nicely before you going to use such a ridiculous thing to ever try to change our life to be easier and relax more. Think what will you lose when you think of what will you get.

For me, I would to think over again with any movie once after I finish watch one of them. Because, I believe that every movie must have their real meaning and meaningful theme that they wanted to show us. To be a complete and success movie all of the movie must have their own plot, theme, moral value, their lesson that we got to learn with.

Try to understanding it, feel it.
You will really get what they want to give.

Critical Thinking [Week 6]

What media stereotype is?

What I done, to more clear about stereotypes. I had did a small summarize from the article given.

Early twentieth century stereotypes focused on women, African-Americans, Asians, Jews, Europeans. Stereotypes can pretty much is considered the same everywhere: simplified, reductive generalizations of an individual or group of individuals. Stereotypes in cartoons operate in a manner different than most other forms of portrayals due to the images being exaggerated. Cartoons can be considered to represent the peak of generalizations. Artefacts and accents are used to represent a character, often by its nationality. In cartoons, we can see stereotypes and discrimination in their most extreme form, much more extreme than in drama motion pictures. The influence of stereotypes in cartoons becomes more pronounced in cultures where the society is homogeneous and undiversified.

War cartoons were another type of image took over the screens in the twentieth century. Stereotypes and symbols are very apparent. The practice of using war enemies in cartoons was acceptable to most of the film-going public. The cartoons simply reinforced the audience’s existing feelings about these groups of people. Cartoons of the early twentieth century cannot be analyzed in a vacuum. They come from a specific time and place. Cartoons are in fact part of this interplay of images, interpretation, and social relations, because they act as a form of knowledge. Cartoons not only reflect the social status, tensions, and discriminatory practices of their time, but they also help shape them through powerful institutions.

From here, I understood the real meaning of stereotypes. And now, I can answer the second question from lecturer better.

week 5, my personal reflection

monday lecture class,
i alwasy felt sleepy, because that was monday,
i had MONDAY BLUE.

lecturer still doing the same thing,
briefing with slide show,
our handsome lecturer always talking with his confidents.

today make the submission for the homework, summary.
passed up the summary to take attendance,

for me,
my opinion,
media cultural,
was trying to tell us all about media.
their history , their cultural and even their uses and benefits given.

the more i learn the more i understand about media.
multimedia,media,media space
simple words, but you got to feel their uses,
its really amazing and meaningful.

i love media.

Critical Thinking [Week 5]

Critical Thinking [Week 5]
For my opinion, I had some personal suggestions to make the internet more safe and trustable.

First of all, website organizer should be restricted with some rules, such as qualification and content checking. With this we can prevent those irresponsible people used internet to do any immoral business, monkeyshines or even making fun with internet.
The system of network creator should be more systematic and strict towards any new user,
And anyone who want to create a new website, try to make the things more procedure to go, so that we can easily take reins of the creator. Lastly, we able to catch up with them, if there are any illegal or error with their website.
We can strike all the criminal and childish behaviour more effective.

Besides, government should have some new law to limited user surfing to any insalubrious web site and punish with anyone who keep from the unhealthy website. In another view, international or national laws should breathe down someone’s neck towards the creation of website or blogger in internet as well as possible. Maybe as stern as the law was can reduce the more illegal website appear.

From resident, our responsible was don’t be the one of them, and keep away from those unhealthy things. Parents should always teaching their children how to be a responsible internet user, such as do no posting fake E-mail, do not deceive new friend from internet and the most important thing was do not easily believe anyone from the net. From school teaching system, we can mediate all the information through civic class or bible class. This is to make sure our new generation know the real function of internet; we can also teach them to protect their family and their own privacy.

Internet was vast, but to make it pure and clean it isn’t hard.
As long as we willing to give a hand and take some responsible to be a good user.
We can make the thing different.
Internet really useful, please cherish it.

Critical Thinking [Week 5]

After read the comic given, I would like to talk about Human behaviour towards Internet.
and all about my anger towards human irresponsible behaviour.

INTERNET can be useful and helpful but also harmful and dangerous. All of this concept towards internet can be controlled by how we going to use this much more benefits and convenient media tools. As we know, many teenagers used internet to have their own space with blogging, internet really give us a lot of freedom and advantages. This unlimited freedom make we did make many mistake, teenagers like to do monkeyshines through internet, because they will never know how will be the consequences serious happen. For example, anyone who using internet, could be possible did done something childish though the internet. Nowadays, there are so many kind of weird E-mail circulating around us, are they truth? Are they really worth to be trust? Those troublemaker , they could even use internet user’s compassions to fulfil their satisfactions such as deceived reader to forward any E-mail to collect donation for any victim, it’s really ridiculous !!

Some of badness business man, they even had their trade or deal through internet with selling porn video, picture or even “onsite” service. This kind of thing did influence many teenagers mind and tempted them to give a try.

Internet was useful. Internet was really helpful. But why can’t we make the best use of internet with civic-mindedness and conscience? So many user be scared with the harmful of internet, so many benefits of internet being neglected and rather to idle away they own right to have a more convenient lifestyle. Parents worries their children been influenced, students scared get cheated and so many more.

Anyway, I really hope all of us can try our best and use the uses of internet as well as do not ill-use it. Then, we could really trust all the content and information that mediated from internet reassuringly.

my feeling,you cares ?

erm, finally,
Reached to this post.
I would like to type this kind of blog more than the CRITICAL THINKING post lo...
hahaha...
I write out what I feel, faster and smoother. ^^

About the class, i love it sometimes.
I hate it sometimes.
The lecturer is funny,
But the slide did lecturer show was a little bit bored.
Whatever I felt was whatever lecturer said always much more then the slide show.
But it’s ok.
Just concentrate in the class.
So many things, happened in our life,
We think it was easy, when we started to analysis it and interpret it,
We will found out it was so amazing, so impossible.
I love this kind of feeling; I felt I'm just like grow mature again,
I will found this feeling whenever I studying media cultural theory.

I love media cultural actually,
Because I do love Media Appreciation.
Even though I failed the subject at semester one.
But I get B for my second time exam.
Very happy because I really put my effort with it.

Critical Thinking [Week 4]

Critical Thinking [Week 4]

After “The Power of Media”, as my opinion, the power of media will be very useless without human try to develop it or even evaluated it . So, I’m going to talk about the power of humans and about their unlimited creative thinking.

I named my topic as “The Countless Creativity In Human Brain”
Human become clever more and more when they face the competition, because they trying to better and better AND BETTER. From the video clip, we knew that the factory of ice cream face the problem with no other new idea and special product, unfortunately, there was another business man came, all the residents could buy their own ice cream maker at home and start to do with self-product. But, it wasn’t a obstacle for the ice cream factory , in the other way, their performance in business betting better . this is because since the ice cream maker been sold around ,the name of ice cream been populated and more and more people will give a try from every way, included the shop and the factory.

In the video clip, they do use the media as much as possible to promote their ice cream,
They use board to do survey and collect others people thinking at the very first time, it’s was a very effective way, because they could get know about how people think about their ice cream and how people hope they change or even wad others consumer needed. When we start to understand the effective of doing survey with board, they also get know the important of mediated information between producers and consumers, they understanding the important of media. So ,they start to promote with internet. For example: blog, video, or sound recording. Anyone who care about , who love to eat ice cream ,they will surely update themselves from all the pipelines of promotions.

We useWow, very creative and it's kinda attracting my attention. Very nicely doneWow, very creative and it's kinda attracting my attention. Very nicely done. Our countless creativity to improve, promote and make improvements. The main power of media was mediated the information to every way! After all the information been mediated, there are so many benefits and advantages for all dimension thinking. No matter for the creator or for the reader. As long as we use the benefits of media with our responsibility and in a right way, media could be useful tools to help in the flows of the technology growing.
Nowadays, the power of media was getting more and more powerful and brings more and more advantages and interesting stuffs for all of us. We can even have our own blog or own music library via internet, shopping with internet and even make friends.

Media, share creative, share ideas, share comments, share happiness and even release unhappy in my own space.

For the example, we can straight away refeｒ　 from the video clip, there are so many comment leaved, so many people gave their opinions and their views about the video. Some people commented, “Wow, very creative and it's kind of attracting my attention. Very nicely done” , others commented that “I don't think using ice cream as an example of social media was very good.“ from here, we can get know that how human in this world think about this video clip, the creator can make a nicer video clip next time and we can do references from their comments too. Did the comments effect how you think about the video clip? We did share our views together.
There were so many praises and criticisms, it’s good to been praised or even criticised, we can improve ourselves from all the comments people gave, we appreciate and think about it, trying to be better! That’s another strange of MEDIA! It can mediated all the new technology information, new product design between we all, it’s form a communication line all around the whole earth, that’s why,

WE WERE ACTUALLY CONNECTED!

first post....

testing testing!!!!

mic test
mic test

hello
harloo

any missing text?
any typing error?

testing....
testing..........

first of all,im Gan Yee Keng, happycat XD
this will be my burden blog,
to finish my homework ,my assignment,
for subject, MEDIA CULTURE.

last sem,for my foundation year,
this sem, all the work getting harder and much more then previous.
need to be more hard working and more creative!

anyway,i hate blogger anyway,
private blog wont been post here. ^^
